Is it necessary to have a scale to weigh your snake on? I mean, I will eventually get one but to start out with is it an absolute must?

In my opnion yes they are not terrible expensive and give you a lot of great info about your snake's especially young snake's. Lets you keep track of weight gain or loss and takes a lot of guess work out of what size prey you should feed. I got mine at Harbor Freight for 12 bucks. But is it absolutely necessary no.

We did not have one when we got our first snake. But we did eventually get one. Good to keep an eye on growth, or weight loss if they go on strike. As long as you are planning on getting one, I would not think it a necessity before the snake arrived.

Scales and action logs go hand in hand with bps. They are IMHO the most necessary peice Of equipment. Right up there with thermostats.
Look at it this way. If you should have a problem. Like a wonky baby not eating, or a wonky adult ceasing eating, etc. the only way you are going to know if you have a problem is by consistent weights. If you should ever have to take your snake to the vet the vet is going To ask for a back ground. You bring your activity log and you have a complete background with no guess work. I write down monthly weights, sheds, feeds, and defecations with the date for every single snake I have. I dont have to guess at when the last shed or poop or fed was. I know. If a snake stops eating I go from monthly weigh ins to bi weekly. If I see there's an issue. It will take you from wondering if you have an issue to knowing whether you do or not.

Yes they are, you can get one for $15 so why not? They make your life much easier and take the guesswork out of the equation. Will your snake survive without one? Yes but a scale is a powerful tool to ensure that snake is as happy as it can be.

I agree I think it is a very good indicator of health. A base line value is important as well. I believe that a early start weight helps to note % increases.
