    Morph or no morph?
I am going to get a ball python and I am very curious as to what I should get as my first BP. Should I stick with the normal, wild type, or should I go for a pastel or spider? I've got my eyes set on a particular lemon pastel but I don't know if he'll still be there when I have the money for him. He's so cute though. I am thinking if I get a normal and end up wanting to breed I don't want to just breed normals, you know? Of course I have a lot more research to do before I even try to breed. I like normals but I love pastels. So I don't know. I am stuck at what I should do as my first BP. Should I go with what I love or should I go with something cheaper and something I can learn about more and then get what I love?

The only thing that's different with morphs is the color/pattern. Normals should be held with the same level of respect and care that a $60,000 cutting edge morph does.

All in all get what you want. You will be much happier in the long run getting exactly what you want than getting anything else. This is an extremely long term commitment (20+ years) that's a long time to be unhappy.

Gotta go with what you love. It makes life better. I personally love normals. Pastels are sweet too. My fav are spiders and any spider combo. Plus if you get a pastel u are well on ur way to having cool morphs.

Thanks! =) Yeah...maybe I can get TWO snakes! lol In time Amy...In time... haha I have a lot to do, yet. I need to finish up my room. I just started school so I am focusing on that a lot but it's not so bad. The only thing really that gets me is math. I am accomplishing goals so I feel like I deserve a reward and that reward will be my snake. =) Then maybe next Christmas (when I finish school) I can get another snake as my graduation ( finally) reward to myself. lol

If I can find a really pretty normal (which I have seen some) then I may take the plunge and get that ONLY if I fall in love lol. But until then I am sticking with my Pastel. Thanks guys for reassuring me.

i was kinda stuck in the same situation for the last couple of months, i had an adult male, and i wanted to breed him, so i was thinking of getting a female morph. but if i did that, i woul've had to wait 2-3yrs before i could breed her. i decided to get an adult female(not 100% on that yet) from craigslist, and buy a male morph, that way i can breed sooner. imo, theres tons a very nice looking normals, and some of them are better looking than alot of the morphs i see (to me), yeah, theres nothing special about them from a breeders point of view, but in my eyes, sometimes theyre worth it. of course, get whatever you want, dont just get the one that happens to be a good deal

Yeah, I am looking for a good deal but at the same time looking for what I really want. So if I find a breeder who is willing to negotiate with me that will be awesome! But I know that's unlikely. lol I posted on a facebook classified for ball pythons so maybe I'll find something there. =)

I still have to buy my flexwatt so it won't be for like a month or two till I get my snake. I think...Maybe sooner

I totally agree with this. There are some awesome morphs out there but I love our normal. His blushing, the lemon yellow by his belly scales, the gold, the white, Everything. It seems that he is getting lighter with every shed. Look around, see what there is to be had, and buy the one you LOVE. :gj:
