    Proud Papa!
Im a proud papa of 13 ratties. They are a couple of weeks old already. Quick story about my wife and kids. Out of all the critters Ive had it was hardest to convince wife to get the rats. I finally convinced her by showing here a dumbo which she thought was cute so I got a dumbo male and a regular female.

When the babies were born, my wife and kids fell in love with them, they spend so much time with them, help me with their cleanup and handle the adult rats and babies daily. We all feel bad I am going to have to euthanize most of them to feed to my sankes :(. But we cant keep them all.

I thought the hooded rat genes were dominant, I didnt get any hoodies, not that it matters just wondering, most of them are like the dad, and 4 of them are black.

I did a boo boo, I failed to take male out when the babies were born and she got pregnant right away again, I have several other cages for the weaned rats and the male now to prevent another preganancy to soon. since the day they were born the adults have never tried biting us or even become overly protective of the babies.

Congratulations on your litter! Nice looking kits in that bunch. I won't hazard a guess on genetics as I'm not up to par with what is dominant versus recessive and so on but congratulations on getting your first litter and having it be that many. Good luck and take care!

Agouti is dominate and black is recessive.
Hooded is also a recessive trait so the agouti male probably isn't a het hooded but all babies will carry the hooded gene.
