    Mixing Heat tape sizes
    Good morning folks,
I recently built a 20 bin rack for our rapidly expanding snake collection. Got myself a VE300 thermostat, and some heat tape. My question is this: is it safe to run two sizes of heat tape (3" and 11") on the same thermostat? I planned to have two levels of 41qt bins, 2 levels of 26qt bins, with the option of using the larger bins up top down the road, so I've got 11" on the bottom two levels and a double row of 3" on the upper levels, with separate plugs, to keep my options open. Thanks for any advice you can give!

No it is not. Different size heat tape puts out a different amount of heat. This is never recommended and can be extremely dangerous. The 11" and the 3" need to be regulated separately.

That is what I thought. Right now I have the 3" on the VE300, and the 11" on a rheostat with a digital thermometer, monitored regularly. I was just tossing ideas around, and thought is ask before I did something stupid :D thanks!
