Questions about keeping rainbow boas I never see asked.
I have been eyeing rainbow boas for awhile, but there are a few things I don't know about that I never see asked. Such as:
1) I want to handle my boa, but I live in the American Great Plains, which means for a few months out of the year the relative humidity is near 0% (once interior heating is factored in). Can I handle my boa outside her cage, and for how long at that rate? What if I got a humidifier which could bring it up to 40%? What about during the milder seasons, when the humidity is closer to 50-60%, but not the 80% she requires? Keep in mind I'm asking about outside-the-cage humidity.
2) If it managed to escape its cage, how likely is it to kill a cat? Assuming it's close to feeding time.
Re: Questions about keeping rainbow boas I never see asked.
I would say as long as you use a humidifier to keep the air decently humid you'd be fine, I wouldn't handle for long with 0% humidity though especially with a rainbow. Once your in the milder seasons and the relative humidity is back up there without having to run a humidifier, you'd be fine to handle her as you please. I honestly would worry more about the snake getting shredded by the cat then the snake trying to kill the cat in the event of an escape happening.
