Provent-A-Mite Q's

In all the time I've kept reptiles I never had a mite issue until last night. I've always heard of PAM and will go ahead and try it due to the vast majority of people recommending. My question is I know you're not supposed to use it on the snake, so if I use it in the enclosure, will it get rid of the mites on the snake, or is it more of a preventative measure? I've heard some people use Reptile relief on the snake while using PAM but I wasn't sure if this was necessary. I would like to use the least I can to not stress out the snake too much.

I know this has probably been covered here a million times but with all the threads and posts to skim through, its easier to just ask again :)

The mites won't die on the snake until they jump off the snake, so I used the PAM in the enclosure and continued daily soakings for about a week. I haven't seen a mite since. I reapply the PAM anything I have to change out the newspaper from them going to the bathroom, but other than that I'll reapply 3 weeks after the first treatment as a preventative and that's all :)

After changing out one of them yesterday I found several dead mites on the bottom of the tub, so the stuff really works.

Treat the substrate, let it dry. It will kill the mites on the snake. Nothing else is necessary. usually treat once a month to prevent reappearing.

We typically recommend using Provent-a-Mite in conjunction with a topical mite removal solution, such as Reptile Relief. The combination of the two will remove mites on the animal as well as in the cage.
