    Incubator Fans?
im building a fridge into an incubator and read someplace you should have fans inside the incubator to move air around, is this a big deal? and what fans should i use? its a bigger fidge about 36" tall by 18" wide and 18" deep right now i have it set up with water bottles on bottom and then 3 shelves holding two tubs per shelf...and in what tub should i place the probe? i dont plan on using that tub for actually incubating eggs but i heard it should be in a tub to make sure the tub temps are right... i was thinking of making a hole in the tub big enough to slide the probe into and then using hot glue to seal it up tight... sorry for the questions just trying to make sure i get this all figured out before i have eggs and no clue what to do

I documented the process of converting my little fridge into a incubator: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ull-Incubator!
I used a computer fan. I felt it was worth installing in order to keep an consistant temperature throughout the interior.

That's what I did, only I sealed it up with caulk.

Here is how my incubator is setup

The tub with the prob is a dummy tub and only contains the t-stat probe (it is however set like any other tub which mean it contains vermiculite)

Now as far as fan I like small computer AC fans this way I don't worry about the adapter burning out anymore, I use the low speed one for this incubator and it works perfectly.

I have a huge 1/4 HP fan that I had laying around from an old A/C unit and I have that hooked to a dimmer and a timer for my incubator of the same size. Will probably pick up a pc fan for next year since I loose a whole tub space with my fan.

Deb, where did you get those incubation tubs? I love them and what are their dimensions if you don't mind? Thanks

Those are Sterilite 7 Quarts tubs which I bought here http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-...of-14/15524838, I can fit clutches of 9 eggs in them if I separate the eggs.

I have those and a few 15 quarts which are the same height.

    I can incubate 20 ((10) 7 quarts + (10) 15 quarts tubs) to 30 clutches ((30) 7 Quarts Tubs)

I use the same tubs as Deb, I like them a lot for incubating :gj:
I wouldn't use anything larger than a computer fan in a 3 ft tall incubator, the bigger fans put off a lot of heat on their own.
We tried using the fan that comes in our large true coolers and the fan alone brought the temps up to 88 degrees.
We use bathroom ceiling fans plugged into a zoo-med rheostat to control the fan speed which helps to fine tune the temps top to bottom.

Do AC fans put out more heat than DC? I am having problems with my AC fan making the temps in my bator too high. The heat tape is off and it is getting up to 92 degrees.

Heres a write up I did on mine. I get a difference of 1 degree between top and bottom and the middle sits between 89.2 and 89.4
