    Red Swelling Around Vent
So I pick up my big boy the other day and notice that there's something strange around the vent. There's a dry reddish brown substance one side. So I talk to one of my breeder friends in town, and he thought it might be a dried up sperm plug since he's been breeding like crazy. He advised to take a wet paper towel and try to gently pull it away.

Well, the later of it we could see came away but underneath it was this red irritated looking...something. I know it's not a prolapse because I've seen plenty of pictures. So I talked to the guy again and he said it could be a swollen hemipene due to substrate getting pulled in after breeding sessions. So he advised to remove the substrate and use paper and put some neosporin on it. So we've done that now.

However, I thought I'd throw this out here to see what you guys think?

There is a vet that does snakes here so if it doesn't get better I'll take him in.

Took me a bit longer to get this than I thought. My still camera is crap so I just went with a video. Let me know what you think?

    Hi,

    Irritation could certainly explain it.

Have you tried popping him to see if there is any sign of a foreign object you could wash off or remove?

I was wondering if something designed to protect and reduce swelling in sensitive tissue like a hemorrhoid cream would help?

I've never used it though so I would get some better advice on it before trying.

I'd definitely pull him from the breeding program and switch him onto paper towel though just to keep it clean. And put some kind of cream on it to prevent it drying out too much and causing problems.

That's brutal. If the swelling doesn't go down soon I would take him in. Just from being medically minded swelling and redness means something is goin on and I would take precaution due to the area of concern.

Already done. He's been on paper for 2 days now. And we're putting neosporin on it too. It actually doesn't look as bad as it did so hopefully time will take care of it.

It takes a lot of just pure brute strength to pop him so I didn't wanna risk hurting him more doing that.

He's definitely taking a breeding break until this goes away.
