Exo Terra Water Dish smells weird?
    http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...ogue1/0092.jpg

It's in the middle of the tank but barely over the UTH. I was wondering if anyone could give me some input on this? It smells kind of like spray paint or any other paint. Maybe the paint is dissolving in the water? The water is about room temp I'd say, slightly cooler maybe.

I have removed the water dish right now as soon as I smelled it because I didn't want her to get toxicity from it if that's what it is. My snake is also in a plastic critter keeper for now while I let the tank air out. I plan to do a full cleaning of the tank and replacing the water dish for now with a plastic sandwich container or something sturdy enough not to be knocked over.

I also noticed that after rinsing out the bowl with hot water it doesn't smell nearly as bad. Maybe it's my water??

I hate hate hate hate!! those dishes.

They get slimy fast and it's impossible to clean the bumpy area properly. I would just save yourself the headache and get a ceramic dog dish.

Haha sorry that it probably didn't help much, I have no idea why it smells. Perhaps just because there is bacteria lurking in the small crevices of the dish. That's why I don't bother with them.

The smell is likely the polester resin it is made from, try soaking in in water just boiled until the water cools and let air dry for a day or so. Then wash it well with soap and water. i have a dish or two like this not my fav but i still use them I just scrub it with a stiff brush and F10XD cleaner works for me.

Re: Exo Terra Water Dish smells weird?
Hello! Total newbie here...I've been lurking 'til now, but I when saw this post I wanted to add... I just got my first BP and that was the exact same water dish I got for him. But mine not only has a strange chemical smell, the paint is now bubbling and peeling up from the bottom! The bottom feels oddly slimy. The pet store I got my snake from is using them in their own enclosures, and all of those look to be bubbling and peeling, too.

Weirdly, I went to another store and checked their bowls out...same model, but theirs looked fine! Maybe there was a bad batch of paint used at some point?

The animals at the pet store looked healthy enough using that bowl, but I replaced it with this greyish ZooMed one that's all plastic with no painted parts, just to be safe. He seems to like this bowl better and will actually soak in this one occasionally. :D
