Is this normal? LOL

A few days ago Sir Chaos got out of his house and literally went crazy on my carpet...rubbing, investigating generally being curious. Ever since then now when i open the door he makes a beeline straight for the door and wants out. Is this that his is finally comfortable with us or should i be worried that something is wrong in his tank? He always "asks" to be held and i gladly hold him sometimes when i do he gets wiggly and wants down. I am still a new snake owner so any help would be greatly appreciated. I do stroke him everyday and he seems to enjoy it and even does some funny tail wagging thing like a happy dog. LOL

Are you sure Sir Chaos is not a Madam Chaos? Kinda sounds like the happy girl breeding tail waggle. :oops:

ummm ok i assumed that Sir Chaos was a male judging by his short stubby tail and him being small hmmm now i'm second guessing that. LOL

You are unable to tell their sex by outward appearance.

Tail length doesn't distinguish sex ;)

If you are comfortable and confident enough to try yourself, there are several informative videos on youtube describing and showing how to pop. Takes some practice but it's not too bad, just have to be extra careful not to injure anything.

Everyone is right that you cant tell by appearance but a short stubby tail would have me leaning towards female rather than male. Males have longer tails bc their hemipenes are in there.

Well i had a friend come over and take a look and he spent 5 minutes and was able to tell me that indeed Sir Chaos is Madame Chaos!! Ok so that explains alot.....So now my next question is should I change her name or just leave it? I swear the petstore swore me up and down he was a he....well i guess we now know. Doesn't make me love her any less! So hmmm any i should know about owning a female snake? Thanks all!!

You can change the name or not if you want. If it's just a pet, the gender doesn't matter. That's the thing about petstores - they can tell you if it's a male or female all they want but without being checked, there's no way to be sure, at least with ball pythons. And no, you don't have to know anything different about owning a female snake vs. a male snake, just that females tend to get larger.
