Boa's won't stay still.

Hey Guys,

I am really new to BOAs, I bought two of them a couple of months ago and i am still working out the kinks.. I have noticed that they have been cruising their PVC enclosures non stop for the last 2 days... I fed them today, only one ate. The one has been going upside down on the top inside of her enclosure until she falls. I've seen IBD and that's not what is happening in this case but i am worried that this may not be normal. The keep rubbing their chins all over the glass and keep pushing like they are trying to escape... Both of them have shed this week.. all in one piece, not sure if that's important..

Here are the things that i am still trying to work out.

1) Temps fluctuate TOO much. I have just got it so that the Ambient is between 75-80, hot spot is only around 90-94ish but my herpstat has been giving me problems lately so I set up a space heater near it and its kept the ambient around 82 and the animal's average temp is 84 at any given time.

2) Humidity has been down BIG. it usually sits around 30 no matter how much we spray. When they go blue we have been praying them down every hour. I've been soaking the coco-husk lately and its been helping to keep it around 50ish..

Any ideas?

You probably won't like it, and neither did I but ditch your tanks and get tubs, MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH easier to keep humidity up and easy to keep ambient up if you have a space heater. If you're set on tanks, then you may try the Lucy Lid fix. I think it's a sticky on one thread but do a search and you'll find it. You need to get another thermostat, if you're in a pinch just get a cheaper one off amazon. If you offered food while it was in shed, that may be the reason it didn't take it. Mine did that so I laid it in the tank with him and it was gone in 15 minutes.

Thank you for the info.

a) I don't use tanks.
b) they shed this week, they are not IN shed.
c) My thermostat needs a new probe - i'm picking one up tomorrow.

I'm more concerned about their behaviour.. The rubbing, and non stop movement. Everytime I open the enclosure to check temps the dart out and fight me to go back in. my female even hissed at me when I was getting her in..

How about posting some pics of the setup. Sounds like they don't like something. How old are they?

Yes sounds like they are a bit unhappy. I have found mine like the temps a bit lower than balls. I keep ambient temp at 76 and the hotspot no more than 90 and they are much more content. Get your t-stat fixed and try that. :gj:

I agree with the not happy part. You haven't changed anything at all? Anything new in the room? Maybe the food item wasn't large enough and one is looking for more while the other one is hungry. Maybe they could be looking for a particular warmth and just can't find it? Maybe they need some exercise? IDK... just some thoughts. I'm new to boas and my guy is a total lazy ass but this is what I ask myself with our BP when he's acting different.
