A Few of My Rats (DUW)
Just thought I'd post a few of some of my rats! I've been meaning to do a comparison between Mink, Cinnamon and Agouti anyway.

I'm not the best rat photographer though, never can get them to hold still. :D

Anyway, some of my gang. These are the ones that would hold still enough not to just have a blur.

Top right is the Agouti, left Silver English Mink and the bottom is my Cinnamon boy. Had to snap this photo fast because he was getting frisky with the girls. :)

Since that Silver Mink is a touch deceiving on what an actual Mink should look like. Here are two of her babies. Both ended up Silver Minks, but their hairs don't get silvered until they mature.

Silver Black Dalmatian female. The Silver Black are quite lovely, they almost appear blue.

Sorry about the blur on this one, but it shows the difference in color well. The one on the left is a dark English Blue and the one on the right is a Russian Blue.

The one on the left is a Russian Silver (Russian Blue x American Blue) and the one on the right is a Russian Dove (Russian Blue x Mink)

Russian Blue, Cap/Stripe and a Blaze.

Odd baby that was almost chestnut brown when she was born. She's molting and she is going to be a marked Siamese, but I don't think she's going to lose all of her color. Still has a creamy beige and she is going into her adult molt now. The dark brown around her ears is the color she was, the light brown/beige is the color she molted into.

    Black Eyed White.

One of my shy little girls I got from another breeder. She is Odd Eyed and Masked.

    Anyway, thanks for looking! :)

Rats are tough to get good pics of!! I think you did great, love your rat colors. I am wondering about the Russian Silver. Is this an F2 breeding? I know that an American x Russian blue F1 generation can be all black babies, have been wondering about trying to get both blues on one rat....... actually have both American and Russian blues here with that as a future goal!

The prospect of playing with color genetics on rats is a lot more fun that playing with the chondro colors...... 3-4 years is a long time to go for the next generation:)

Thanks! I tried, but they have things other than photos in mind. Especially that Cinnamon boy who was all over the girls. :D

The Russian Silver is from a Russian Silver buck (American Blue x Russian Blue) to a Russian Blue doe carrying American Blue. Since I do not inbreed, getting my colors is taking a little longer than I'd like, but I dislike the idea of inbreeding unless you are testing for megacolon, etc. I throw 2-3 Russian Silver in their litter every breeding. Not to mention, the buck and doe have a great structure. They are one of my favorite pairings.

I'm currently working on a Russian Cinnamon and a Russian Blue Agouti since I have neither in my colony. It just takes time and all of the selective breeding pays off.

Thanks so much! I think I spend WAY more time with the rats than I do the snakes. :)

    Thanks!

American Blue/British Blue (aadd) actually have a wide variety of acceptable coat colors from powder blue to slate grey.

Russian Blues (rbrb) are a dark blueish grey with almost a metallic sheen. Russian Blues are also ticked in various shades of blue.

They are two different lines of blue. Much like breeding an Albino to a Piebald Ball Python. Two visuals will create non-visual double heterozygous offspring. Once you breed their offspring together you will create visual offspring carrying both the Russian Blue and American Blue genetics. They are called Russian Silvers (d/d rb/rb).
