    Temp gun VS dial temp
I have a dial temp ( the circle kind sold at almost all pet stores ). It's on the cold side it says. 75. My temp gun says 80. Which is more accurate? The reason I ask I work at a food place. I used my temp gun & says the temps are correct then I tried again it said something different.

A temp gun will measure surface temps more accurately, dials will measure ambient temps and might not be accurate.

Re: Temp gun VS dial temp
I like thermostats with dials because small adjustments can be made. I pay little attention to what temp the dial actually says. To check on temps, I have a stationary thermometer in each cage and I also check with a temp gun and a laser temp gun.

as you probabaly know, thats a Infrared temp gun. it guages the temp at the exact point that the red dot is. as posted before, the other type measures the ambient temp.
IMO, these IR temp guns are the best for geting a acurate temp on point "X".
i dont have one, but would like one.... on the other hand, i have a PE1, and it does all i need.

I have my thermostat probe in my snakes tank & set it to 90. Probe is right under the radiant heat panel. It says 94.6 with my temp gun. So is my thermostat not working correct? I put the red dot on the probe itself.

Most of those dial gauges are junk IMO. Temp guns are usually the best way to go.
