Bought this little guy today, price was right!! Few months old, very calm. They said they wer feeding it mice fuzzes but i think i will put it on rats before its stuck on mice. Any tips or info for a new red tail owner? I have other snakes, 1 being a male Dumeril, but this is our first rtb.

He is just precious. :) And I wouldn't worry too much about him getting stuck on mice. Boas are a lot less picky than ball pythons.

Nice pick up:gj: Boas eat anything he won't get stuck on mice.

I keep my guys on mice for about the first year and switch to rats with no problems.

2 more from tonite. I love this guy. Soo smooth feeling and soo calm and when he moves, he's definatly in no rush lol.

We fed him his first rat pinky since we had him. I know I maybe should have waited a few days but he was SUPER hungry and ate it no problem, been 3 days since we fed him and no issues at all. I kept an eye on him the first day after being fed juuust to make sure he would keep it down, and he did! We were told he was on mice but I really wanted to switch him over to rats ASAP, he loves them!

x2! I know you said you wanted him on rats asap, but mice are actually better for him at this age. You'll probably get some folks here who disagree with that, and feeding rat pinks isn't necessarily wrong, but boas can have issues when they get too much fat in their diet. They grow more slowly, and therefore better, on mice which have a higher bone and calcium content. Just for the first 8-12 months - then rats are better. This info was given to me from Tim at Special K Reptiles. Tim has been in boas for a looong time and has raised hundred, if not thousands, of baby boas on both mice and rats. It's totally your choice of course, but think about it. If you do keep him on rats, watch his weight and don't feed more than 1 a week. :gj:

Super looking baby you have there - big congrats! You'll love having him! ;)
