    Petco Morphs
I've seen morphs at this Petco before, but now they actually have them labeled and priced. It's crazy to think that when I first got into this hobby, Spiders were priced at $15,000 and Pastels were a couple thousand.

Maybe in another 10 years I can walk in and pick up a Banana and Champagne... :P

$230 for a Spider? What a SMOKIN' deal!

But seriously, I've never seen any morphs at my local Petco. I wonder what people think when they see the signs and they're not familiar with morphs ("What's a pastel and a spider ball python? Is that a new breed?") :P

Considering a normal (and quite an ugly one at that) BCI neonate is $169 at petco I wouldn't expect much.

I bought a Spider male from Larry at the Havre deGrace show for $125 that made Petco's Spider ashamed to be a snake.

My gorgeous little Pastel female cost me a whole $125 and there's nothing at my local PetCo can touch her.

Both are growing like weeds, eating like pigs and packed full of BP personality.

Their emaciated, nippy Pastel hatchlings [$175] have not eaten for over a month and they refuse to follow any of my advice or my offer to bring them home for a couple of weeks to get them eating.

I don't expect to see them in the tanks much longer.

    :tears:

^ I was totally kidding about it being a "smokin' deal" :)

I got my little Spider female for $160, and I wouldn't have passed her up for any Petco morph.

I just flat out hate petco. Wish they would go out of business

    I know.

I just wanted to rant about those poor starving Pastels again.

I am so livid I can barely see straight.

I think about them every day and how hungry they must be.

They were 'stressing out' and 'cage climbing', weeks ago.

Now they just lay limply around in the tank, not even bothering to hide any more.

    So livid.

[you got a good buy on the Spider girl]

    :)

Yes, these can be had for better prices from the good folks that actually breed them. Interestingly enough, as I was looking at the boas in the cage next to these, a kid walks up to me and says that the boas are cool, but these are so much cooler (pointing at the balls).

Another time when I was there, a person commented to me as I was looking at the balls: "balls are cool, but they are so hard to get to eat. I had 2 that died on me already." Funny... I can't feed my guys enough.

Inevitably these two morphs will get snapped up. Hopefully it will be by someone that knows what they're doing, because they won't get much help from the Petco staff.

    But they never will.

    Their profit margin is huge.

    Consider normal BPs, alone.

$5-10 for each snake, sold for $79.99, moving about a dozen a week.
The fish have an even higher profit margin.
That $9.99 Bala Shark cost them about 25 cents, tops.

-Everything- in that place can be bought for half the price online, or less.

I got 3 thermostats off Amazon for the price of *1* at PetCo and I'm sure the Amazon seller made a profit too, even at that those bargain prices.

The Pastels in my PetCo have been there nearly forever.
    Why?
The kid who tends to them tells everyone they do not eat.

He wants them to be properly tended to and I think he's playing devil's advocate in order to force them to do so.

My first BP came from PetCo [$39.99] and was scrawny as a rail.
She's more than tripled her weight since the beginning of November.

She never met a meal she didn't love...but I got lucky with her.

If they ever mark down those Pastels as 'adoptables', I'm buying them.
