    Aspen Bedding
    Hello,

It's been a while since i've been on here. The last time i have a ball python on aspen bedding he got mites. (My first ball) But now i moved (my second ball) genesis to aspen and i'm nervous about it. But every time i go to get paper we are all out of them. I have mite spray that i got from Petsmart and when i get paid i wanna order PAM for just in case. But for now all i got is Jurassic Mite spray. He doesnt have them im just a worry wort when it comes to using aspen bedding i guess.

I've never gotten mites from aspen bedding and I use it in all of my tubs, but it is possible for there to be some in the bedding. What I usually do is if I don't trust something and suspect there may be mites, I do a mite treatment just to be safe.

If you're worried about it, treating the bedding doesn't hurt, but I'd be more inclined to believe that the mites in your aspen bedding was more of a freak occurance than anything, usually it's fine.

i have gotten mites from reptibark bedding, and i have gotten wood mites from bark decor, i have never had or ever met anybody getting mites from aspen, thats actually the reason why i got aspen bedding, because so many agree is the best and most "mite proof",because truth be told, bark bedding looks alot cooler and natural than aspen, but the benefits of aspen outweigh its ugly "looks like bedding for a rabbit" look.

i use all aspen and have never had a problem. that being said a friend of mine told me that when he uses the brand of aspen that i use he has never had a problem, but with anouther brand he has tried he has had a mite problem 3 seperate times. it may just be his bad luck or possibly the location he got the other brand from but it has happened.

Snake Mites don't live long off a snake they cannot feed. I believe the mites is days and eggs weeks. It is unlikely to be snake mites from wood bedding. There are 1000s of types of mites all specialized to live off certain things they might craw around on the wrong thing but will not complete the life cycle with out the primary host. Mites from wood are likely some type of wood mite.

All things living things sounds like the "petsmart" brand I think. Imo if you have any worries then yes id pretreat the bedding with the mite spray and you should be at ease. I use aspen as part of my substrate mixture and we've never had any problems with it. We mix coco husk aspen and sphagum moss together and it holds humidity like a dream for us and we use tanks lol.

Never forget 'mite sprays' for the most part use a chemical that started life in a bit more basic form as 'snake spray' designed to kill snakes. Accidental poisoning has occurred and will again. It is poison and just to add a little tidbit is also a human carcinogen (weight of evidence). I would not recommend using it as a preventative product, and only as a treatment for snake mites and even then with caution.
