20 gallon tank ,.Need help on heating?

We have moved your Python from a 10 gallon tank to 20 gallon tank .
The 10 gallon tank heating was great .
Set up Zoo Med ReptiCare Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter 60 watt heater with a tstat .
Now that we moved to a bigger an new tank , Can't get the heat up to 72 .
What do I need to do ?

Do you have an under tank heater for the twenty gallon tank? You really should have one for the tank for the hot side. This would really help. It also needs to be hooked up to a thermostat.

yea, a 20g being bigger then a 10 is gunna take alittle more work to heat. Get a uth and a thermostat for it so you can adjust the heat (it can get way to hot on theglass if you don't and it can burn the snake). Also you can try buying black contact paper and lining the OUTSIDE of the tank on the back and sides. Black absorbs heat more. Its been working for us and we have 2 20g and 1 40g. Also you can try puting foil over the top of the cage (again on the outside) leaving enough room for there to still be ventalation and put your lamp on. Never put the lamp directly on thefoil. I suggest only covering half. Hope this helps =]

What are your ambient temps in the room?

To reach my goal in my room which gets down to 68 at night I am currently using 2 UTH's(on thermostats) and 1 60watt CHE (on a lamp dimmer).

The UTH's get the warm(92) and cool(82) side to their perfect temp but wouldn't increase the ambient temps in the tank more than 2-3 degrees. So I am using a 60 watt CHE on a dimmer at half power in the center of the cage pointing straight at the largest water bowl -but I have to refill daily(this increases ambient temps in the cage and also doesn't kill my humidity completely). I am also using a 2nd smaller water bowl on the cool side to assist with humidity and also provide a water thermal gradient.

I covered 3/4 of the Lid with 3 layers of tin foil, then covered that with a black duck tape for aesthetic reasons. I have the back and sides covered with a black foam board(the project boards that we did presentations in high school/ college with)

I have held this tank like this at perfect temps for about 1.5 week now and I have tested my temps from 62-85 and it held steady with ambient temps in the cage ranging from 79-85. Although I don't have my snake yet and I have already made the purchase of an Animal Plastics cage.

I realized that this will be a pain to clean and maintain the temps/humidity correctly all year round.

No under tank heater . If thats what i need ,What size ? where to get it ?

And this is a cheaper thermostat(which you will have to have). There are also more expensive ones that can control multiple heat sources at once which in the end add up. I currently have 2 of the thermostats below and wish I had paid out for one of the multiple source thermostats.

If I could go back in time 1 month I would have bought a herpstat and some flexwatt and called it a day.;)

2 feet of 11X 12 inch flexwatt, cut down to cover just about 1/3 of the bottom of the tank.
Reptile basics for the flexwatt.
Wire to a lamp cord and plug it into a thermostat.

Hydrofarm or repti-temp 500r thermostat or if you want better quality step up to a johnson controls A419 thermostat.

Cover 1/2 or more of the lid to help trap the heat in longer.
