    Questions about UTH and thermostats
Hey all, I am about to get a bigger tank for my bp, hades, and I was just wondering what brand of UTH's and thermostats you would recommend. I'm currently using a flukers UTH but i was wondering if there are better ones. And I am currently not using a thermostat but would like to get the piece of mind that it offers. Your opinions really help!

11x12 Flexwatt heat tape wired to a plug in and plugged into at least a repti-temp 500R or a hydrofarm thermostat.

You can buy a couple of feet of it and cut it down in length to cover 1/3 of the bottom of any tank.

I'm using a Zoomed UTH(expensive buggers, but it's what's available, and sometimes you can get them on sale for a good price. I saw one for $16 in the size I needed, but didn't need it.XD)
and am using a hydrofarm t-stat. Works great, you just have to figure out where to set the temperatures on the t-stat to get the right temps in the cage. *shrug*

Though I'd love to have a UTH made by the peeps who do the flexwatt tape(Forgot the name of the UTH) and a herpstat to go with.

    X2 on the flex-a-watt.
t-stat depends on what you want to spend, I like the V-200 from Reptile Basics;)

Flexwatt all the way. I use herpstats by Spyder robotics.

I use ZooMed UTH's although if you are handy with wiring and soldering Flexwatt is the way to go. For a cheap digital T-Stat I would recommend this

    http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPR...4853429&sr=8-1

    Hope this helped

Amazon.com has Zoomed and Fluckers UTHs for nearly half what they cost in pet stores. I am currently using a Fluckers and the Hydrofarm t-stat mentioned above. That t-stat is an amazing find, it is meant for plants, but it works perfectly fine for reptiles and at a fraction of the cost for most reptile t-stats. I check the temps manually with a point and shoot thermometer every day, but it is really great for peace of mind, as you say. I live in a pretty cold climate, so ambient temps are always a battle for me, but the hydrofarm has never let my hot spot drop below 88 at night and I have it set to 91. Perfectly safe range, not too much of a degree shift to shock the snake in any way. I can be in bed shivering and my snake will be toasty and happy. :P

For a single tank i would not use flexwatt it sags a lot. It does better fasten to a surface and enclosure placed upon it like in a rack. I'd suggest that most of the UTH brands are about the same. Pick one.

Not a fan of the 500R I'd suggest a hydrofarm would be a better choice over the 500r.
