Poison Oak, what do you do for the itching?
A friend of mine has got some pretty bad poison oak. He's got steroids from the doc, and a cream to apply topically and he's still itching pretty bad.
Anyone got any home made remedies?

I have used Aveeno oatmeal bath when I had Poison Ivy once and it really helped. I hope your friend feels better soon.

LOL I thought that was for jellyfish stings!

Tecnu is AWESOME, but whenever I get it I mostly just cry.
JK. Everyone in my family has been getting it constantly, since we've been clearing poison oak and oak-covered brush at our property. Anything to dry it out, and my boyfriend's mom runs hers under insanely hot water and then blowdrys it. BUT, her hand swelled up rather intensely from doing that often, I believe it may have released too much histamine or something along those lines.
I personally slather it in teatree oil, and then helps me. :] If he had the cortizone shot, it should be cleared up in two to three days regardless, so he'll probably feel better soon.

We deal with it most of the year.
The funny thing about poison oak is that it does not affect some people at all (me, for example) and others just have a heck of a time with it (my father).
We use Tecnu at work (buy it buy the case) and while it works on mild to moderate cases, it does diddly over squat for the guys who have extreme reactions. Same with calamine lotion.
For people who are extremely sensitive, there is really nothing other than various steroids (topical, oral, etc.).

Thanks guys. I've passed that on and hopefully it'll pass quickly.
