    Breeding question: Adult females
Can you still breed a female if she is off feed, but has good weight? So my ball python is off feed, but she weighs about 1870g. Is it bad or okay? I'm new to the whole breeding so don't get angry on me.

Some of my girls will go off of feed until they lock. She may eat after you breed her. They will usually go off of feed again when their follicles get bigger. As long as she has good muscle tone, I would throw a male in with her:)

most females will start eating better once they start mating. its dependent on the snake though.

How long has she been off feed? If she's been off feed for several months, I think a vet check for parasites or health issues is in order, before considering breeding her.
If she went off feed at the same time as some of your other snakes, then it's probably seasonal, and breeding her would be fine.
Monitor her weight--it's not how much she weighs now that counts, but how much she loses over the course of a month. Excessive weight loss means illness rather than just seasonal food-fussiness.

It's not bad per say, but they need food intake to produce healthy eggs, I cringe when any of my females stop eating before breeding season.
Try to get as much food in her during the breeding season as you can, hopefully she starts eating at some point and drops you some nice white eggs.

she hasnt eaten for one month. She went off feed around the end of november. Still maintain good weight. The other reason why I am asking because people say that once they start mating, there feeding response will be better.

Typically yes, we had one last year that stopped eating after breeding, but I've had many more decide to get ravenous after breeding the first couple times.

I would if she hasnt lost much wieght and it hasnt been an extended period of time. All of my breeder females went off feed for a month or so give or take a couple weeks. However they are now just pounding everything and looking for more and also starting to glow a bit. They do this exact cycle every year. I suspect they will quit eating again soon and then ovulate. I'm no expert but from what Ive noticed this is normal. I hope it works out for you and they start eating again and you get some good looking eggs.

Many females will go off feed when cycling. I usually watch my females and if they are good eaters and then suddenly stop, when not in shed, then I pair them no matter what time of year it is.

So I say if she is healthy, pair her!

Can you still feed if they are ovulating or before that when they show follicles or they are gravid?
