You should contact Tim Cole from Austin Reptile Rescue. He's a member over on fauna. He's a really nice guy and really knows his hots. Plus, since he's in Tex. he has first hand info on the roundups.

Rattlesnake roundups is an unnecessary slaughter of thousands of animals..... They have also discovered that snake in the areas that are hunted more are more likely to bite and less likely to rattle as a warning, making them more dangerous (it is evolution @ work)

It is straining the population not controlling it... the area hunted for the round ups gets larger and larger because there are fewer and fewer snakes.

It is ridiculous, absurd and disgusting

I'm all for conservation based hunting. I've hunted rattler, in fact it is one of my favorite types of wild game. What these guys and their round ups do is far from regulated, and should be illegal. Removing nuisance animals or controlled hunting is should be allowed, its as simple as a punch card system with size and number restrictions to keep local populations at a safe and healthy level. These roundups are destroying local populations of native rattlers, to the point where people are being forced to hunt in larger areas and neighbor counties surrounding roundups.

Im am not against regulated hunting but like other have said, this is far from regulated. Its sad that probably nothing will be done until the animal is on the verge of extinction.
