I had my septum pierced for years.
I got it done at a shop that you wouldn't know because I'm in Canada. But you have to make sure that you get a good piercer who knows NOT to pierce it through the cartilage - that's the septum piercing's biggest myth. They don't pierce through cartilage (or at least theyre not supposed to. They pierced through that fleshy bit of skin underneath the cartilage.

It didn't hurt to get PIERCED from what I can remember, it just makes your eyes water (same with nostril piercings). The healing hurts a bit more, but it's nothing. Just don't get your nose bumped by someone, because that HURTS SO MUCH.

Looking back I have no idea why I got it done. It's ugly. At least you can hide it when you want though.

iv had it, and yes, it hurts when it gets bumped in the begining. look at the portfolios of the person that is doing it. look for them to be even. if the needle goes in sideways the piercing will be sideways.. i had mine somewhat streached, i could put a pencil in it:rolleye2:. in the end, iv taken it out. it closed up pretty quick, so i could only get a very small GA. in it now if i tried.. i think it looks cool, so give it a shot while your young.

I got mine done at a really nice shop (Tommy T's in Huntington Beach) and I didn't feel a thing. Haha, I actually starting laughing because he told me "alright, let's look in the mirror now"...."what?! You pierced it already?! I thought it's supposed to hurt??" haha.
So, 1, I suggest going to a nice shop. 2, I HIGHLY suggest going to a shop that doesn't do a countdown before they push the needle through. I used to go to a shop that did that and I've noticed that it would freak me out and I'd get way more nervous than I should (even though they don't hurt). 3, eat some fruit before you go. 4, DON'T bump it when it's healing!! That's the only time it really hurt.

Personally, I like it. I have a simple little silver one (not the full ring). If you like them, I say go for it!

i periced mine my self...i would go to a shop.. i have a peircing needle and it still hurt...i ended up gauging to 7/16s in in my septum...its really not that bad but your eyes will water. just be carfle hiding it right when its peirced tho because it will try to scab over and heal and every time you fold it up it will rip and hurt...wait a few months to gauge it too...go slow...slower then ears,

I had my done twice. First time I would rate the pain as uncomfortable. It makes your eyes water and nose run....well for me. The second time I didn't even flinch....no pain at all. I have a job that I can't wear it and it fell out one night so I gave up on the idea.

I've had mine pierced for years. I went to Comes a Time in Fairfax, VA and Alex did it but he no longer works there. It's still a good shop though and Sean (who I believe is their current piercer) is an excellent piercer. You're going to have to make sure that where you go pierces minors with parental consent (and a letter doesn't count - parent has to be there) because some shops won't pierce you if you're under 18 no matter what.

I don't remember it hurting really at all, it feels like a pinch, both your eyes will water. I don't remember mine being terribly sore afterwards but if did hurt if I bumped it. It's an easy healing process because it's an out of the way piercing. Mine is stretched to an 8g and I normally just wear a silicone plug in it.

It's actually one of my favorite piercings and I hope to have a job with a less restrictive dress code so I can wear jewelery in it more often. They make some incredible pieces for septums.

Also like Catanddiallo said make sure that they know NOT to go through cartilage. If a piercer doesn't know enough to just pierce the fleshy "sweet spot" then I wouldn't trust that person touching me with a needle. It'll hurt A LOT if it goes through the cartilage.

Oh jeez. Tommy T;s is super over priced >.<

    ahah
Side note! I got my septum done in Anaheim Ca in a place called outer limits.
It was quick and literally like a small pinch. What i did like about the place was that they talked to me about what would be good for my face and what were the positive and negatives of each thing. So i liked that they told me everything i needed to know.
When the septum heals is when it hurts! the crust in the nose hurts! ahah

welp, i got it done, my industrial hurt wayyyyy more than my septum, but through out the week, it must be a ninja ;) haha, but on the weekends it gets to come out, i love it, ive bumped it twice and it was only pierced saturday or yesterday depending when u read this xD not as painful as people make it out to be, but the lady who pierced it did my lips, and my industrial and i got nervous right before she did it and she went to tell me to breathe in deeply and i did it accidentally from my nerves being shot and adrenaline pumping nd she said ok already got the first one huh? haha then she said one more time and so of course i did it, and it went thru and my eyes watered a lot, the clamps were more annoying then the pain of the piercing itself, then the jewelry going thru was a bit painful from the way it is like a corkscrew, but i love it, thanks for ur input :gj:
