Tub/Rack System Setup Q's

I currently have a cage setup with a 10 gal tank, heat lamp, UTH, and thermostat. I am looking into getting a rack system so that I can have more snakes.

What is the typical setup like for a tub/rack system as far as heating/lighting? I know most use Flexwatt tape for heating. How do you maintain a 12 hr day/night cycle with tubs?

If you really want to establish a day/night cycle, ambient room light will be good enough if you cycle them for 12/12 hours. Really though, ball pythons dont need light. In my snake room, I have a big window that I keep the blinds half open on, and the sunlight regulates the light cycle in the room.

As far as heating goes, flexwatt is generally the preferred heating for racks. Good for you making the change, tanks just dont cut it for me!

Also, I agree with mattchibi that artificial light cycles are not necessary. For temp regulation, you have the options of building enclosed (3 sides) or open racks - open racks are not as insulated, so you will want to be sure your room's ambient temp stays in the high 70s to keep your tub ambient temps there as well. Enclosed racks are a little more forgiving because they contain the heat from the flexwatt better.

Added: Make sure you hook that thermostat up to the flexwatt, just like your current UTH!

Yes flexwat is easy some use heat cable however as it is water resistant and would make cleaning faster and easier! When planning the switch figure on heating the room to 80 or near 80 it can be done with out doing this but is 1000% harder and many times more expensive.

for light I have a custom built cage that is on a 12 hour light cycle that I use a cheap power timer from home depot to control they're like $4. For heat I use flexwatt controlled by a ranco thermostat and they stay at 92 degrees F 24/7
