Will he calm down?

I recently got a male spider BP (last saturday) and he is not bitey but is very flighty and will not stop moving around constantly while I handle him. I am not a breeder and this is my only "pet" BP although I have other snakes and have had many more in the past ....but since this is my only BP now I would like him to be calm when handling. Do you think he always be this flighty or will he calm down with age? I hjave not weighed him but I will soon. He is not that small, on rat pups already. Maybe at least 200 grams but this is just a guess. I need new batteries for my scale. Also he already ate for me and is nice and chubby so he is definately not doing this because he is hungry. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Spiders can be a little weird thanks to the spider gene wobble. They are just a tad odd when compared to other morphs if you really pay attention. They aren't usually aggressive, but they move differently that's for sure. My spider was a bit twitchy and every now and again he would bite me for no reason when I was holding him. He wouldn't even give me the warning strike pose, just bite. I'm sure your spider will get better, or you will just get used to his quick moves! ;)

mine calmed down a lot with size, seems most of them will but as stated above the spiders are a little off:D

LoL I haven't seen him doing the wobble thing yet while exploring his cage. I did however speek too soon about not being bitely as he struck at me twice while I was cleaning his cage just now :-P Haha thanks for the replies

Some snakes grow out of it and some don't. You have only had him a week so I wouldn't worry to much. Handle him a little so he gets more comfortable with you.

I am sure he will calm down. You just have to get into your snake's head and realize that until they have been handled a lot and gotten used to you, you are a big scary predator. :D Can hardly blame them for being a little concerned about being near you!

I calmed my girl down by letting her come to me. I would gently nudge her up onto a piece of driftwood I have in her tank and then lift the wood out with her on it. Then I would put my hand flat in front of her and let her explore it in her own terms. She would smell my hand, put her head on it, crawl a little bit, and then retreat. Every day, she would get less nervous. Now, once I have her out, I have no problems with her. She's still little and still gets concerned in that moment when I reach in to get her, no matter how slow and gentle I move, but once out, she decides everything is ok. Just takes time and patience. :)

Thanks guys, that is a good idea to let them come to you :) I wil be leaving him alone for like 2 days now since he is going to be offered food tonight.
