    Mad Ball Python
Hey guys so i just stuck my hand in my ball pythons cage to change his water as i do every night and he started hissing constantly at my hand. This is the first time he has ever done that and i handle him regularly. What is wrong?

Could be a lot of things. Could have startled him, could have had an unfamiliar scent, could have just moved too quick for the mood he was in. LOL just too many things. Pick him up and he will probably forget all about it.

If theres one thing iv learned about snakes, dont EVER let them punk you out, cause once they do its all over for you lol.

But as Mike said it can be 100 different things. I think your ball was just startled, iv noticed with snakes you cant move to fast, that would be like me swinging my hand at someones face, theres a good chance they will flinch, same with a snake.

Regardless of the situation i wouldnt worry, just pick him up.

I have some that will do that to me every now and again. I actually have two now that hiss at me non stop. They both have a terrible attitude, but calm down when I pick them up!

I'm sure you just startled him. Is he going into shed? Is he hungry maybe?

I have a high fear of being bit as well lol but once you get bit you get used to it....unless of course you get tagged by a Burm or an Annie lol

I know from experience that my adult spider and my juv het fied female get hissy and nippy when in shed so i jus leave them alone during these times. they are perfectly fine when not in shed, but during they get really grumpy.
