why is it there arnt many caramel glows?

I was just wondering why you dont see many caramel glows for sale. A double recessive going for around $3500. That tells me there are some out there, but why dont you see many? Is it a lack of interest or.....

A lot of breeders don't like to play around too much with recessive genes unless there is a really good trend going in the market. It's easier to sell double gene co-dom morphs than it is to sell double gene recessive morphs. For example, pieds. Pieds are huge right now, ergo you see a huge supply and demand for them. What you don't see is a huge demand for axanthics (although there is a lot more interest in them lately) which is why very few people have them available.

het just suck to work with especially if your going for a double recessive combo. Its really a personal choice, caramel glows are amazing animals and its a huge personal investment of time and resources to work to try to produce one. I am working towards a blizzard ball, not a double recessive but thats my interest and I don't care how many there are out there or what the going price is.

My guess is that A. they just aren't extreme enough anymore for people to want mess around with all the double het stuff, and/or B. when someone does make a double-recessive like that, they don't often put it up for sale, but keep it instead. I feel as though I have seen a fair number of het and possible het glow project animals available.

I feel as though snows are another one that used to be the big hot ticket, but are barely even touched any more.

Caramel glows are absolutely gorgeous, and properly outbred animals are unlikely to kink. With double hets, you only have a 1/16 chance per egg of hitting the glow. The few breeders I've met who have produced them are loathe to let such an accomplishment (luck!) go for any price.

I considered the project myself as I love the look of caramels and ghosts are a favorite of mine. However, I got turned off to the project due to the genetic problems I read about regarding caramels. Specifically the kinking and I've read that female caramels have fertility issues. So now I am thinking about an ultramel glow projects. I LOVE the ultramels. They seem even nicer than the caramels in my opinion. Plus like others have said, double ressessives tend to stay in breeder collections considering how hard they are to make.

With snows once you have a pair you can breed them together and get 100% snow clutches. Looks like about the best you could with caramel glows is caramel glow male to hypo het caramel female for 50% chance caramel glows and maybe half of those would be kinked so only 25% clutch sellable. Still not keeping me from trying but maybe an explanation of why there aren't more of them for sale.

i have 8 caramels in the last 2 years and no kinking yet i am going for a caramel glow this year or next
