male ball python feeding habits

the breeder i purchased my bp from told me at the time that males tend to be pickier eaters than females particularly in the winter months. Is this true or is this just a general thing for all bp's? i have a female now and have had no feeding problems but am thinking of picking up a new male.

Males tend to not eat during breeding season. I have a large male who hasn't eaten for me since I got him in October, he hasn't lost much weight (only around 30g) so I'm not worried. But my baby male doesn't care at all - eats every time hes provided a meal. It's not uncommon.

I have a male thats about 6 months, and he has always eaten really well. over the 2.5 weeks however as its gotten colder i've had problems. the first week he struck at it, coiled, and then left it sit in his tank all night. then a week later i tried again and he struck and let it sit. i tried again the next day though and he ate. I just tried to feed him again this week and he didn't do anything other than sniff at it and move on. I was just about to ask the same question you did.

ya i heard thats what happens. males tend to be a pretty good amount less than females to buy so i was gonna pick up a morph male. i will still want a male here soon, but will probably get a female at this point. my female now has never missed a meal except for during shed. the temps have come down where i live too so i was wondering if it mostly applied to males. at leat that was what the breeder had said

I was actually just getting on here to check to make sure it is in fact breeding season right now. I have a 4yr male and he was eating GREAT.. A medium rat every friday. The past 3 times I have offered he hasn't been interested. I have been told over and over that this is normal for males so no worries folks.

My 2010 male hasn't really skipped many meals since I've had him. Maybe one week here or there, but when I noticed him slowing down, I started offering pre killed, and he started taking again.

My male has not taken a meal in a little over a month now. But from reading all the posts on here I never even gave it another though, seems to be what they do. I'll keep offering every couple weeks instead of weekly. I'm sure he'll eat when he is hungry enough.

They can get pickier during the winter months, but it's not always just because it's winter time. You need to make sure you keep the temps up. I have a couple that are being a pain right now about eating, and they are two 1 year old females.
