How do you cure R.I. in Ball Pythons?
Hello everyone...I have picked up a 1600 gram normal female from a friend and just noticed today that she has R.I. She sounds like she is hissing but you can hear a stuffy sound coming from her!

So how do I cure this?

You need to get antibiotics from a vet to cure a RI. In the meantime just bump up the hot side temp to 93-95F and double check your husbandry.

So what is the antibiotics called? Also my husbandry is good, and her hot spot is 93 degrees as we type! :D

Vets can give a couple different kinds of antibiotics. The vet needs to examine your snake to confirm the diagnosis, which often involves a culture. Different causes require different medication. My vet used ceftazidime.

i think that person means ambient temperature. The air should be warmer, and dryer. Drop the humidity, and up the ambient temperature until you can get to a vet. also as far as i know, they might have to do a culture to test which kind of bacteria is causing the RI, so they know which meds to give. :)

Try removing the substrate, replacing it with newspaper and running a small fan in your snake room to help with the humidity reduction. Also, you may want to remove the water source(temporarily)..
And as was said, bump your temp. up a little. (95)

There is no at home remedy. A vet might prescribe Baytril. Hard to buy on your own without a doc. Just my $0.02

Yes since there are multiple causes of RI and they all require a different treatment, you need to take your snake to a vet

I have had luck with raising the temp, and a raising the humidity.....I know it goes against what everyone is saying, but it works for me........do with it as you will.

You can't do anything until you see a vet. You can't cure it - a vet can, so give one a jingle first thing tomorrow.

The vet will culture the infection to find out what bacteria is responsible and prescribe the appropriate medication.
