I am not sure what dri lock paint is but a high quality poly urethane should be fine (colors in plastic) a few good coats and lots of drying time and you should have no problem.

Don't know about the paint, but I do know Menards as well as PC Lumber have 4'x8' melamine sheets in 3/4" thickness. GOOD LUCK with your rack project. I am glad I built mine. I did a 2' x 2' x 7'high...WOW....it was heavy trying to get it upright on the casters all by myself (lol).

dri lock is paint for basements but it dries rough (bumpy). people use it to waterproof diy monitor cages that need like 80% humidity. i dont know if if will hurt the snake when he rubs up against it.

It sounds fine. If you are sure it is ok then there should be no problem I usually recommend away from paints designed for basements and bathrooms ect. sometimes they have chemicals added to prevent mould and mildew, insect and such that could be questionable for contact with reptiles. If Drilock has no added biocides it is likely as good as any other.

i know its 100% safe for tegus and similar lizards. my main concern is the snake hurting its self on the rough bumps. i might just do a small rack to see how it works.

I have only ever used colours in plastic it is a high quality poly urethane works really well and is water proof (used it on boats too) liner-polyurethanes are tougher but hard to work with and many times more expensive.

I would guess that the bumps are not sharp but just a texture? It should be fine but will it clean ok? That upper surface of a rack is a pain at the best of times.
