Provent-A-Mite Question

I recently purchased a snake from a "Big" breeder with mites, and as a precationary measure I'm treating all of my tubs. For those of you who use this product, how long do you wait before putting the snake back in? I have been airing these tubs with a fan for 15 minutes and they still have a bit of an odor to them but are fully dry. Also, if a snake has mites that I have not spotted, will PAM kill the mites on the snake too?

We had the tub outside and it only took it about 15 minutes to air out and dry fully. Give it a few more minutes, maybe wave your hand and get out some of the fumes yourself lol! Shouldn't take too long!

Yes, the mites on the snake will die as well. The snake will crawl on the substrate and rub against the cage furniture, and even if it's fully dry and there is no more odor, technically there is still some of it in the air(enough that you if you were to try to feed crickets in that tub, the crickets would die! Or enough to kill a big tarantula even) and it will kill those mites quick.


After months of trying to get rid of mites with other products, it only took us one treatment of PAM before the mites were gone. REALLY impressive! :D if it's really bad, it'll take a few times though.

I let the tubs sit for at least 30 minutes just to be sure. It dries pretty fast so you don't have to wait forever. When I did it last it was in the summer so I put the tubs outside under the tree on a 90 degree day. Putting the snake in a tub that has been Pamed should take care of any mites that may be on the snake. If you ever get anything really bad I would also get Reptile Relief to spray directly on the snake to take care of the problem a bit faster.

I've only had to use it once. I left it outside for an hour (I guess I'm paranoid), brought it in and let the temps adjust before putting my BP's back in. Then re-treated in 2 weeks although it wasn't necessary, this stuff really works

That's what happened with us! Made us wish we used PAM from the start!

paranoid??? I'll leave mine outside for a whole day, and then put the snake in the next day. This stuff works.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and did all of my animals last night. I only have 20 animals right now. Compared to my 80 or so I sold off last winter, it was alot more manageable. I guess you could say I'm paranoid also, I used a fan for about 30 mins. I didn't even see mites but on 2 snakes and freaked out. I hate bugs in my reptile room with a passion. I know who I won't be buying from in the future.:)

It doesn't matter who I get a snake from I always pre treat the tub.

I see a lot of PAM threads but I don't recall much mention about the water dish. I was told to leave the water dish out of the enclosure for two days after treating the tub, that it could get in the water and be ingested, does anyone else leave the water dish out for a couple of days? Once it's dry it's dry. There is no washing it off or any of that. Ralph Davis made a post about it and he says to put the snake and water dish right back in. I did and they seem to be ok.
