I need a back up non proportional t-stat. Which type is the least expensive that you have had good experiences with? (This will be to back up one of my herpstats BTW)

I use Hydrofarms and Johnsons (along with my Herpstat...) I've also heard good things about RBIs t-stat :)

The cheapest thing I would get is a Johnson or Ranco. I have Rancos and Helixes myself and I like them.

I also use the Hydrofarm. You can find them cheap online, but I found a local supplier for the ones I use.
    I paid $36 each

I use a reptitemp 500r from ZooMed. I don't really like it though because it only has a dial to set the temps. But it works pretty well I think. At least, I don't have any trouble with it. But it's only a backup so it doesn't get much use really. But I paid $28 for it from Amazon. :gj:

Any idea what the watt rating is on these? I couldn't find the info on Amazon. I run about 275 watts (as of now at least) through the herpstat that I will be attaching to the back up.

AHhhhhh never mind. I just found the 1000 watt capacity on the hydrofarm website so that is good. I think I will go with that one. It is about the price I was wanting to pay for a back up.
