    Popping older BP's
I'm going to be taking in a rescue this weekend and wanted to sex the bp but i've been told that the age is somewhere between 5-7. The person who taught me how to pop told me that as they get older popping can become much more difficult. I have learned how to probe but wouldn't feel confident enough to guarantee the sex 100%. Can anyone offer any tips for sexing adults?

    Thanks

I'd definitely suggest probing for an adult, your chances of injury in popping increase with age. Babies generally let it all hang out which makes them easier/safer to pop, whereas adults would take quite a bit of pressure to pop, and unless you're really experienced you could really injure the sex organs...

I would pop. I find it easier to pop adults than 2 month old bps since I was taught with adults. Hatchlings are really easy to pop, no doubt, but so is an adult male, their plugs come out really easily. Adult females are a little harder, but you can do it. Probing is no good imo bc it can catch on things or female can be oddly long.

I actually find it easier to pop adults. Once you get the hang of popping, it's really not that difficult and doesn't pose a threat to the snake regardless of its age/size.

Ralph Davis has a video of popping adults if that helps.

Since I'm used to hatchlings, I find it takes a bit of cursing and a few tries, but it's not really that bad. You just have to get the angles right. :)

Thanks for the help. The new snake will be here tomorrow so i'll give that video a look and give it a go. I have become pretty good at popping the little ones so hopefully it won't be to difficult.
