Killing rats with carbon monoxide?

Could you harm your snakes by feeding them rats killed with carbon monoxide or car exhaust? Can't find much information online about anything other than CO2. Just wondering...I don't have CO2 handy, but I do have a car....

CO2 is pretty easy to get ahold of I personally would never use my car to kill feeders.

Depending on the condition of your emission system there is a lot more in vehicle exhaust then just carbon monoxide.

There is no easy way to administer CO that would be regulated and safe. Plenty of people use CO2 with great success, do some searching around and you'll find what you need if that's the avenue you pursue. Dry ice, vinegar+baking soda, or paintball-style canisters with regulators can all be used to pump CO2 into a kill box.

My euthanasia of choice is cervical dislocation. It is super easy, quicker than any other method, and free.

There is no reason to use CO when CO2 is so easy to make.

I wouldn't worry as much about the CO as all the other pollutants in the exhaust. There's a LOT of nasty stuff in car exhaust and I wouldn't want my snake exposed to it.

That's what I was thinking but I got into a big debate with a friend, lol. :D

If vehicle exhaust was just straight CO then it would probably be fine, but it's not.

The thing I'd most be worried about is the spent hydrocarbons in it saturating the prey's hair and in the long term leading to cancer development in the snakes.
