daylight bulb
i have a daylight bulb, should it go over my warm or cold side, and is it considered basking, also, do i need a black bulb?

Re: daylight bulb
It should go on the warmer side. You want to create a basking spot with. Temp between 90-93 but still having the correct humidity. This is a pain without a UTH... and I am going to guess you mean a black light for night?

You don't night a light source for ball pythons. They do well with just an undertank heater that is hooked up to a thermostat.

Your best bet is to use the light until you can get a thermostat, my adult female actually got burnt from the UTH, which was supposed to go.no more then 95, and it was at least 115 if not 125. I couldn't even touch the glass it was touching. If You use the bulbs and get the right temperature, but not humidity, you can run a COOL MIST Humidifier, we went from 10-15% humidity, to 45-60%. When it's shedding time we just mist a little. (Out juvenile actually had a 1 piece shed and he has a 100 wat above his cage)

Re: daylight bulb
You can get a lamp dimmer for your UTH at Lowe's. They are pretty cheap but you would have to monitor the temps very closely when using one.

You need a thermostat. Here is a thread I posted (graphic) of someone who "thought" a UTH without a thermostat would be just fine. Your method of "using more aspen" won't work, especially if he burrows. Don't risk it. Don't be cheap.
