Breeding pastel het clown to non het
Thoughts? I've got a male pastel het clown that is ready to breed but my females het/PH girls won't be until next year. I'm toying with the idea of breeding him to a normal or maybe a pastel going off of that a lot of people say you can make a good guess about which ones are het clown. I was planning on putting my male enchi with my bee but maybe her also.

You really can't pick out any hets from a pos het group. You can guess that the lighter ones are hets, but that's not always the case, you have a 50/50 chance of being right or wrong. If you want to do the breeding and hold back all the pastel females, that's what I would do.

I completely disagree with you. A trained eye can pick a het clown out of a group IMO. Some are harder to pick out obviously due to the fact that some are darker than most het clowns. I have 4 poss het clown girls right now....I'm guessing all 4 will prove out. These girls up against the normals I have in my collection stand out totally. I guess we will see when the results come in. I will post them anyway. Post some pics of your pastel het clown male. I would like to see him.

I have problems posting pictures for some reason plus my desktop is just a big paperweight at the moment. I have a couple older ones of him in my gallery.

I'm with Mike, het clowns are fairly easy to pick out

The best marker for het clowns from what I see is the neck stripe...
2 different female hets...same type striping

    http://i968.photobucket.com/albums/a...ehetclown1.jpg

Which is also on the yellowbelly het clowns...that gold stripe just glows in person

As always, this marker is only usable in a clutch situation, it doesn't mean you can go to petco and grab a snake with a neck stripe and try to prove it out.

It's up to you. If you get lucky, you'll have extra het girls to breed, if not, you have extra normals(if you hold them all back)

I would probably instead of breeding it to a normal breed it to a morph... A possible pastel-enchi poss het clown sells a lot better than a normal poss het clown or even just a pastel poss het clown! (especially with so many pastel 100% hets out there)
