rat maternity rack based on freedom breeder small mouse tubs??
Anyone have a write up for one of these or willing to do one or atleast some general plans? It's what I'm planning on building someday here when I have some free time. But I'm not sure what materials to use for spacers and runners.. I wanted to do one 5 tubs per level and 8 levels high for a total of 40 tubs. I've seen videos and stuff of people who have them like ralph davis and justin kobylka(i think?) and they seem like the best option.

    Thanks in advance!

I have seen and most people do it this way to my knowledge, use 2x2s or 2x4s and cut out notches where the tubs will slide... So you notch out both top corners so it forms an upside down T then screw it into the bottom of the shelf... Hope that makes sense if not I'll try to do a picture.

Yes that absolutely makes sense, and it was one of the things I was planning to try. I was just thinking that maybe it would be easier if using 1x2s as spacers and 1x4s as the runners...I just dont know how big the lip of the tubs are..

I used 1x2s as spacers and 1x4s as runners on the inside and 1x3s on the outside for my HD tubs. It works perfectly. I would have done the 2x4 method if I had a table saw. But since I don't I used what I could. If you have a tub just measure the lip height.

You should be able to tell from that pic that it's a 1x2 and a 1x4 joined as 1

My momma racks are pretty straight forward, build it around whatever size the tubs are that you decide to use.
    These are 20qt sterilite tubs.
