15 qt tub too big for hatchlings?

Are 15 quart tubs too big for hatchlings ? I have some fake leaves from my viv I could throw in for ground cover to make them more secure. Some of the Boaphile and AP racks have 6 quart tubs for their hatchling racks, but I am assuming thats when theyre newly born? The lesser girl I am getting will be approx 3 months old when I get her, so a 15 quart tub should be okay, right ?

I am going out on a limb and say No.

In the wild, the size of the hatchling's enclosure is the size of the globe. Provide hides for security, heat and humidity and it doesn't matter how large the enclosure is.

In essence, your house is the snake's enclosure. You just provide a smaller environment for it (the tub or tank). Within the tub or tank, you provide other means of security - hides.

I have never understood the theory of an enclosure being too large. It's a wonder any hatchling snakes make it at all in the wild without small tubs or tanks to keep them feeling safe and secure.

There are a lot of people who take a minimalist approach to cage decorations. Some people don't even use hides. I have several that I don't give hides to and others that I do.

I don't believe that 15qt is too big. I have a 92g snake in a 17qt tub with a hide and a water dish. She ate just fine for me yesterday.

I dont really trust my building skills right now, so I am actually going to order a rack from AP. Its going to be a bit costly but I just wanna make sure my breeding projects are being kept in the perfect setups, as I am just starting out and all of these investments are pretty huge. In the future I definitely plan on building some melamine racks, though. And you're welcome haha, that has happened to me on more than one occasion.

Its pretty awesome having so many people with the same interest, everybody at work looks at me like a freak when i say im going to a show lol.

Most of my new additions get placed in 15 qt tubs, and I have never had an issue with them. They have all eaten great, and don't seem to stressed out. I always have 2 appropriate size hides for them though.

i figured people would stand in line to tell you that they were too big - i don't doubt most breeder's opinions at all that smaller is better - yet i have done fine with bigger - i have 2 2011's between 162 and 200 grams in 25 quart steriltes with dual side identical hides and they are doing just fine - eating every week - sheds are great - i have absolutely no decorations just heat mat, water bowl. newspaper, dual side hides, and natural light cycle - they are handled twice weekly on average for 10 - 15 minutes - both come out well and sometimes don't even wanna go back in - thats my experience - working for me

Shoot, I've stuck my little ones (at the time ~100-150 grams) right into 28qts with no problems. I just add lots of fake plants, maybe some pieces of wood, to make them feel secure and I haven't had any problems (I like that I don't have to upgrade their tubs as quickly since they can stay in those for a long time)

15qt should be more than okay for your little lesser.

When I first started I had 4 hatchlings that weighed less than 100 grams each in 41qt tubs because that's what I had available. I added an extra hide in each tub and today they are healthy as can be and eat like none other. So no, I wouldn't say 15qt tubs were too big. :D
