    Question about my rack temps
In short, I have a rack that I just finished building. Each tub has 11 inch flexwatt that covers about 1/3 of the floor surface. I have my herpstat prob taped down to a part of the flexwatt behind one of the tubs and set to 92 degrees on proportional mode.

My temp gun is 1:1 so if it hold it up close it measures a small spot and farther away measures a broader area.

On day 1 after sitting for about 12 hours, when I pulled out any tub and aimed my temp gun at the floor in the back it would be 92 degrees, just about perfect compared to the thermostat.

I put some aspen bedding yesterday in 2 tubs and put my female normal and male bumblebee in to the rack. I checked the temps later and found that if I held the temp gun farther away the back area where the aspen would be is about 90-91 degrees. When I clear some of the aspen away and measure the plastic close up its about 94 degrees.

    Is this about right?

The aspen is covering the plastic so im sure its insulating heat a little better now and 94 isnt enough to hurt the snake. Should I turn the herp stat down to the plastic gets to 90-92 or should I just leave it about where it is? If I turn it down the area on top of the bedding may cool down. And When I hold the heat gun higher up over the hot spot. The general area is about 90-92 degrees.

94 wont harm anything, Just keep the aspen thinner and keep t-stat set at 88-91 and you will be fine.

Yeah Ill turn down the t-stat a few notches. I guess 92 is at the upper spectrum of the hotspot range anyways. I'll play around with the settings. The temps have been VERY stable though and the radiant heat also keeps the cool end at 80-81.

I would say you could turn it down. We use room heat only, and heat the room to 83 with no issues, so if the temp drops a bit it's not going to hurt anything. At 94F, if the snake pushes the bedding out of the way and sits on the plastic it's a bit hot.
