Back or belly heat for hatchling rack?

Back or belly heat for a hatchling rack? for ball pythons

I voted back heat since hatchling racks have such a large number of tubs. The only reason I would make a hatchling rack with belly heat is if the room they are in gets really cold or if the dimensions allow me to convert it into an adult rack in the future.

Back heat for the little ones. Belly heat tends to heat up the entire tub since hatchling tubs are so small...

I built mine with back heat just because of the size of the tubs and it was much easier

Depends on your ambient temps, depending on your ambient temps it might be more or less effective and you might have more or less heat loss.

my hatchling rack is back heat due to the size of the tubs. my adult rack is belly heat though. just personal preference IMO

even in a cold room back heat usually works fine for hatchling rack cause the tubs are so small.

This is a very good question and there is a lot of controversy over it. When it boils down to it, it all depends on your personal preference. I voted belly heat only because I found a better feeding response with the belly heat. However I have a rack that uses back heat and temps, and humidity were all fine. It depends on what works for you - if your making your rack, back heat is easier, cheaper, and safer to work with.

One thing I found however and is important to consider is that with back heat, I lost a lot of heat transfer from the tape to the bin. My thermostat is set to 107 in order to get a 88 - 92 degree reading on the back of the bin. Just a factor to be aware of.

Same here, I have belly heat under all of my hatchlings and adults.
There is a 4 degree heat gradient front to back, plenty imo.

Thanks guys I think I am going to go with belly heat. Who sells the best racks or is it better to make one?
