Fluid in cut eggs is turning cloudy

I cut three of my six eggs on day 52 this morning and now the fluid appears milky/cloudy and their egg box smells different. It doesn't smell bad, but definitely different. I'm a little worried that they might be in trouble. Has anybody ever seen this happen, and if so, is it a problem? Should I do anything about it? I would upload pictures, but I'm worried that messing with them more will make the problem worse.

Also, the baby snakes appear very pale, but I'm fairly certain it's just because they haven't coloured up yet.

You could try washing them out by spraying warm water from a mister?

What temp did you incubate at?

I normaly only see a colour change in the egg white if there is fungus or bacteria growing in it. And that normally takes a couple of days to start. :confused:

Did you nick any major veins or anything while cutting? Or stick your hands in the eggs?

( I know you probably didn't just wanted to ask to be sure )

If you just cut the eggs that's what you're smelling. The egg smell. They are pale due to not coloring up. That won't happen til they come out, and even then they will have better color after they shed.

If it isn't discolored like yellow or any color other than cloudy white, it sounds pretty normal. Just keep an eye on it. I'm sure they are fine.

I incubated at 89.5, it fluctuated throughout incubation from about 89.0 to 89.5. I didn't nick any veins at all and I didn't put my fingers in there. I sterilized everything I touched them with in ethanol. I pinched up a piece of shell, candled through it to check for veins, and pinched a tiny v-shaped hole in it with a nail scissors and peeled the piece apart further with tweezers. The fluid was clear then and it's milky-looking now (12-ish hours later). Am I just freaking out over nothing?

It certainly sounds as though you didn't do anything wrong at all. :gj:

Day 52 might have been a tad early but certainly not disasterously so. I'd probably just keep a carefull eye on it to see if it changes.

If the fluid in the eggs starts forming a skin or you can see fungus etc start to grow you can spray to try and remove it or use a q-tip for bigger pieces.

Did you leave the v shaped section open or close it back over?

I'm fairly certain one of them is dead. There is a white film over the snake and it's definitely smelling funky in there now. He also hasn't moved since I last looked in there. How responsive should they be at this point? I poked him gently with a damp q-tip and he's not moving or responding at all. He's also upside-down which seems weird.

I closed it over again. There was a tiny hole that was left open (like blunt pencil-tip sized hole) because I accidentally tore off a piece. In retrospect, I'm not entirely certain it wasn't cloudy when I first opened it. I may have just noticed it later on. Could he have been dead in there before I opened the egg? If he's dead, would it be better for the other eggs if I took the dead one out or left it in there? How can I be certain he's not alive without possibly making things worse?

They were dead. 3 of them, perfectly formed, no tangled umbilical, nothing looked wrong. Most of the yolk was unabsorbed. They looked like they'd been dead for a long time, so I don't think it had to do with me cutting them. They were all slimey and practically falling apart. All male normals coincidentally. I'm so upset. I hope to high heaven the others aren't dead as well. What did I do wrong?

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. Sometimes these things just happen...

Hi,

As said I'm don't think you did anything wrong. Your temps seem fine and you would normally see signs on the eggs if you humidity was too high or too low.

I lost a clutch last year because they got wet on the bottom an they swelled up and started to mold on the bottom. :(

Sorry to hear about you losing your eggs. I can't say I know how you feel bad I do think it's sad and feel bad :(
