All you have to do is buy a thermostat and plug the heater in ;) http://www.reptilebasics.com/ranco-etc-111000-pre-wired just pick the oil filled heater option.

You can also get your ranco and wire it yourself but http://www.reptilebasics.com/ranco-etc-111000

    Wiring guide http://www.rcreptiles.com/blog/index...1000_thermosta

Personally when it come to electricity I trust people who do that on a daily basis better than trusting myself. ;)

Does this heater option work with oil heaters that have an internal thermostat.

The heater option eliminates the power strip and uses a bit bigger gauge extension cord type cord with just a single plug on the end. You'll run into tripping the power atrip if your heater is set on high, the cord eliminates that problem. But I've always been curious if the extra start up amp pulls of heaters on high would be enough to cause issues within the thermostat.

A seperate thermostat will NEVER work on a heater with anything digital.

You must always use an analog heater with a Ranco

Yes if it has a digital thermostat what you will need to do is set the thermostat of your oil filled heater at the desired temps and set your ranco 3 or 4 degrees higher so it acts as a fail safe.

If you have analog type of thermostat low - medium - high and some number just set the herpstat at the desire temp and set your heater on high and the ranco will regulate your temps.

    I use Delonghi

    Model number TRH0715

It has 3 wattage settings 600/900/1500

Since I am using it for supplemental heat, I use the lowest wattage setting on the heater. I have the oil filled heater thermostat set to the highest setting. The oil filled heater is on a Johnson Control thermostat. I set the Johnson Control thermostat to the desired temp. It has been doing the job now for about 3 years. A new one will smell bad when run for the first time. I recommend a well ventilated area to burn off the smell.

    Hope this makes sense.
