    Pet rat question (Litter training?)
I have two girls I'm going to get a bigger cage for but the cage I found doesn't have a very deep bottom. I was wondering if anyone here with pet rats (and I know there are plenty here) have had any success with litter training their pet rats? And what are your cage preferences? I was looking at the Critter Nation Rat Chinchilla Squirrel Cage Midwest 161 BUT the tray at the bottom looks very shallow.

i used to have a rat, gerbil, and some mice, and from what i could tell, they had no control over their bowels, just like fish and birds, they just went whenever and wherever they were when they had to

Yeah that's what I thought. I was looking online and I read they can be partially litter trained? Who knows, maybe I should just look for a different cage.
Anyone have a cage to recommend for 2+ rats?

We trained our three rats to go in one of the snap on corner poop things that u can buy at the pet store. We put carefresh in the bottom and whenever they pooped we put it in their and whenever we put the rats back in their cage we would put them in it so they could see that is where the poop goes. They caught on very quick. We have a huge ferret nation and they poop in the bottom corner. I actually see them leave the house on top to run to the bottom and do their business then run back to the top to lay down

Oh ya rats are pretty smart. I had one that when she was on the floor running around would come scratch on my ankle when I was standing, I'd put my leg like a lil ramp and she would run up so I could hold her.
