Nile Monitor water pond

Ok guys, I need a little help here. We're putting the finishing touches on a new enclosure for Superman and we're having some trouble with the water situation.

Right now he's got a large rubbermaid tub that he can fully submerge in, but it has to be cleaned out at LEAST once a day because he poops in it. Right now getting his water in and out isn't a problem but will be a little more difficult in his new home. I was wanting to give him a much larger water tank like This one but not sure how we will clean it out. It would be too much to drain and replace everytime he poo's in it. Could we use a pond filter? Would it clog up with poop?

It has a drain plug on it that we were thinking of creating a drain with a valve on it for fully emptying and we can run tubing out to the drain but we need a way to get the grossness out!!

you could build a framed screen insert to lift out after he poo's, i'd use normal window screen, doubled up, with metal frame if you can, but well sealed wood can work just as well. but i would also keep a pond filter in it with a mesh guard around the hose so no poop gets in

The only problem is, when he poops in the water, unless we catch it right away, it just turns into sludge at the bottom. Plus, since he eats a lot of rodents... his poop is VERY furry!!!

get one of those python fish tank cleaners i guess, idk why i didnt think of that before, i think my brain tends to try to be unnecesarily elaborate sometimes

Sure. Get a medium to large fishnet and "strain" through the water, gathering all the "chunky goodness" in the net and dump into garbage, toilet, etc.

Draining afterward should be no problem if you use the floor drain.

I use the water python mentioned above.
