When to attempt F/T?

Loki took P/K Saturday night with no issues, and has been taking rats easily for a few weeks now.

Last feeding, he had the best feeding responce, instant grab, he almost bit me while I was trying to drop the rats in (he's on 3.5wk olds now) and we're staying at that size until (if he goes) on f/t

But, when do I make the attempted switch? I'm fine doing pre-killed for now, and I'll be fine if he stays that way for the rest of his life, but F/t would be less of a hassel than p/k since at the moment, I still have to buy rat pups weekly, and a few weeks, I'll be buying crickets every few days, so that's 3 trips a week to the petstore, that can be narrowed down to 2 easily.

The sooner the better.

Ya if you wanted you could do it next meal just make sure you dry it off and that the feeder is warm

He's eating fine so go ahead and offer. If he doesn't eat it don't panic, just leave it and check in the morning. Then offer again on his normal scheduled feeding day. I let them thaw in the fridge and then they go into the sink full of hot water. Once they r hot I wrap them in paper towels, Unwrap and offer.

My BP just took a F/T mouse on Sunday it was awesome :)

Hair blow drying it by her tank really helped (and made it nice and warm!)

She refuses to eat with me in the room so I have yet to see how she eats it or exactly how long it takes her to but about an hour of leaving her alone with it with all the lights off and no one in the room to bug her did the trick :rolleyes:

The first time that I offered food to Volvagia was F/T (and she took it). That was her fourth feeding. Since then she hasn't refused any F/T rats

The time to offer is after they are feeding consistently. There usually isn't too much of an issue as long as it is warm enough and acts alive.

Some will drop feed and some will not. So leaving it in may or may not work I have had animals I have left it in over night and gone to remove it in the am and they have struck and taken it then.

Looks like I'll be trying F/T in a couple weeks then :)

I'd try this weekend, but, I'm not going to be in town, and I only trust my family enough to get the pups Saturday since the friend I get them from doesn't work on a Sunday, and I can't get them from him then.

I'll have to see if he'll even take P/K in his tank, since it's too much of an awkward angle to prevent bites from live feedings, he's been in a feeding bin.

I'm sure I'll be posting when he's on F/T rats consistantly, the snake I was told "only eats 2 live small adult mice every 10 days" is now on P/K rat pups that are bigger than small adult mice, every 7 days.
