Messed up my rack....

Awhile ago I built a rack for my bps. The three that are in quarantine will be coming out within the next week - week 1/2 and I plan on putting them in the rack with my original BP. I tried to set up the tubs today to get a feel for temps and realized that i forgot spacers. The rack is melamine with the shelves screwed in and the tubs fit VERY tight. I have to push them and they get stuck about half way. I don't really know any other way to fix this than completely removing the shelves and screwing them in again with spacers, but that seems like a pain. Any ideas?

easiest solution would be to sand or file off some of the top of the tub, just mark each tub as that slot in the rack, and only use them there. Beyond that it's taking the rack apart.

Shave the top of the tubs. It's pretty easy to take off some plastic.

Thanks for the ideas. What kind of tool would be good for that? I bet I could use something in the Dremel, one of the little wheels.

I'd use a razor so you can take small amounts off. Just skim a tiny bit off at a time until you get it to fit. They sell those paint scrapers with the flat edge razor. The dremel could take off too much and will melt the plastic.

personaly i would use some medium grit sand paper and an electric sander. should work just fine. I did the same sort of thing with my first rack i built. they are tight but i can still slide tubs in and out pretty well without altering the tubs.

It's my first rack also :) I definitely will remember spacers for the next one. I just don't want to damage the flexwatt! I'm happy that I realized this now though instead of in a week when my new girl comes :D

even a sanding block would be fine, do 80 to get the amount off ou need, then go over it with like 150

I had the same problem and took off the top lip of my big adult tubs. This made the plastic way too flexible and I trashed it because I was afraid my big girls would push out. My tubs are also in sideways so it will probably not be a problem if they are in front to back and its a smaller bin.

Just a word of warning. I did it with the dremel and it was a PITA! This is the DIY shelf rack. I just need to be extra sweet to my fiance so he will adjust the shelf!

i would use a mill bastard file if you had one...
