new cinny and new problems (mites)

:mad: got a new cinny girl yesterday from a snake flipper i know and work with, thought he was a decent guy and a friend but i got the cinny home and this morning i found a small black bug:mad: so now comes the reaction to the problem. she is about 5 lbs, around 4 feet.

Which method should i use to treat her for mites? provent a mite? ive read of people following the directions and still having snakes die from the spray. plus i would have to wait to get it after i order it. Nix solution, ive read is safe to spray on and near the snake when diluted enough, but the key chemical has been linked to birth defects in lab animals and could lead to death in some animals, i dont think she would be harmed but my pastel is about a year and a half old and im worried if she gets mites she might not be safe with the nix.

I've never personally known or heard of any snake dying if the product is used as directed.

I've used it before (twice - well, two treatments) and nothing happened to my boy. The mites were sure as hell gone though!

I would use a product that was made for animals.

Provent a Mite is only to be used for the enclosure, so if you do order it triple check that you understand all the directions. You need to use something else for the snake itself. A lot of people say to soak the snake in water (it drowns the mites) and then use mineral oil on a Q-tip to remove any of the mites that migrate to the head to escape the water.

Don't forget to put the snake on paper towels if she's not already. Also, disinfect or remove her hides, water bowl, etc and keep as little "furniture" in there as possible.
