Help... Thermometer randomly broke? What should I do?
Well, I was trying to resecure KAllisa's accurite thermometer to the side of her cage because I had to take it off to reset something(Had it set to time instead of coolside temp because I accidentally changed it to that while cleaning her cage fully today)

But I thought maybe the battery jsut ran out, so I changed it... nothing...
    IDK what happened.
Will she be fine until I get another? Might be able to get one tomorrow, but I don't have another for her until then.
He thermostat is fine and temps haven't been an issue so far(a little cool on the coolside but still I can't change that very easily and Kali's been fine since I got her in August).

I might go mess with it more, but I think it's dead. XD
So she'll be fine without a thermometer for now, right?

Yes, as long as your thermostat is in proper working order there is nothing to worry about. Honesty, I'd say ditch the thermometer and spend $20-30 for a entry level temp gun. They are worth every penny in my opinion. Many different places sell them.

this. Invest in the temp gun. I only use one thermometer in my 10 bin rack and I have never had an issue. You will be okay for a bit if yours died.

Oh so should I jsut seee if I can get a temp gun then? I just zap it on her hot spot and it'll tell me her temp? I could use this for my dragon too. O.O good idea.

    TY!
I can get one at Lowes. :3

    Thanks!

I have owned this one for around two years: http://www.reptilebasics.com/rbi-201
    I like it a lot.

I have also owned a PE-1, and would also recommend that one. Just make sure you a within a few inches of the area you want to take the temperature and it will be very accurate. I also use the top one listed to take my temps for my bearded dragon, crested geckos, roaches, ambient room temps, whatever you want.

Any one, they all have basically the same specs +/-2ºF. I personally would still have a regular thermometer as IR guns can only measure surface temps and give little to no indication of ambient temps.

Personally I use just thermometers the cheapest i can find and I buy a few and test them against each other and only use the ones that read basically the same. Last time I bought some I got 20 units for about 26$, I gave away 4 as they were too far off. (more than 1 degree)

    Something like this...

    So I got one! :3

We happened to have one in our garage from a storage unit! It's a pretty nice one, too, but the plastic covering is broken, it still works A OK! I tested it and it seems pretty accurate(tested it on my lizard's hot spots and Kali's heat pad temp compared to her thermostat temp. Looks like her thermostat is 2* off) But I just realised... I've got nothing to measure humidity with..

It wouldnt hurt to get a cheap un-used thermometer/humidity gauge around in a drawer or something just as a backup in case you run into an incident like this again.
