When to get a bigger tank?
I have some juvie ball pythons about two feet long and I was wonder what is the best time to move them out of a 20 gal and into a bigger tank? I go by that the tank should be at least half as wide as the length of their body and the length about 2/3 of their length. But i'll usually move them to a 40 gal around 3 feet. I'm a reptile breeder and I have many different types of snakes and housing them has never been a problem for me. I was just wondering if anyone has any better suggestions.
Re: When to get a bigger tank?
I usually upgrade to a bigger size once the length of the snake reaches the Length+Width of the enclosure.

I upped my first ball python into a 40 gallon tank when he was about 3 years old though.
What do you use now?

don't want to speak for other people but racks are the way to go. You can make your own but even if you buy them your looking at $1000 MAXIMUM for a 10 bin rack (but you can get much cheeper models) - and when you break down the cost of each tank its much cheeper, and the snakes perfer them to glass enclosures.
Cheers.

i was planning on upgrading when this cage becomes too small for appropriate sized hide boxes.

I never said that I house them together, that's stupid. Ball pythons are solitary snakes.

I've always just used glass or custom built tanks. Snake racks wouldn't work for the burms and retics or cobras but I could use them for my ball pythons. Where can I get one? If you have links to some good quality ones and some cheaper ones i'll look at both.
