First time breeder questions.

I have two questions for all the experienced individuals. First, how often do you check for locks? At this time I've only tried pairing two different pairs for a 3 day period. I wasn't expecting to see something but I always see pictures of breeders "catching them in the act". How often do you check, or do some people just get lucky?

Second question, do those of you that normally use hides take them out while pairing? It seems with a hide, every time I check one is in the hide and the other is somewhere else. I know they aren't always going to be together but I'm not sure if this is prolonging them to lock.

Man, this is exciting finally being able to ask questions about my own breeding issues!

well i dont have the answers but congrats on starting to breed! ive wanted to breed for years but i dont have a female, or money for that matter lol

i would guess take the hides out though, most of the pics ive seen of locks have no hides visible

If I pair in the morning I check that same evening if I pair in the evening I check the next morning.

You want to remove the hides so no one is hiding from the other ;)

Good, I wasn't sure if people were checking their tubs every 30 minutes or something crazy. Next time I pair I will for sure remove the hides. Feeding day tonight after work. We will see if the lovers will eat for me.

I am sure many how tempted as it is always exciting to be able to confirm a lock however you really want to disturb them as little as you can. ;)
