A spider got into Snickers tank!!! Should I be worried?
So first of all I just want to say that snickers lives in a a regular tank with a screened lid with tin-foil taped to the top of it with a few air holes cut out for circulation.

She also has a container of sphagnum moss in her tank that gets sprayed down every other day.

That seems to work out fine for her humidity levels and when she goes into a shed I just spritz her tank down twice a day to keep the humidity at roughly 70.

Anyway....the other night I took her tupperware dish of moss out and started spraying in down and then all of a sudden I saw a spider(and since I am deathly afraid of bugs) my gut reaction without thinking was to chuck the container against the wall creating a huge mess of moss all over the place.

My boyfriend quickly found and killed the spider.

We don't have a big bug problem in our house and but once in a while will have to kill a spider.

I am now a bit freaked out though for a couple of reasons:

    1. I have never seen a spider here that looked like that! It was WHITE and counting it's outstretched legs was probably only the size of my thumbnail.

    2. I don't know HOW it got into her tank! It looked too big to fit through the screen. The only time her hinged screen lid is open for longer than 20 seconds is when her water gets dumped and changed(which is everyday though)

It just really bothers me that a spider got into her tank!!! How in the hell did it get inside??? Could it have harmed her??? She ate 2 days later and is still acting normal.

I wouldn't worry about it. A white spider you say? Sounds like something that just molted, is probably harmless, etc. Spiders have their way of getting into places they want to get into... Everything should be fine!

like jessica said, dont freak out, its gonna be okay, and if you see one in the enclosure itself, take the snake out before you throw the whole thing at the wall;)

    Spiders molt??? Holy crap!

Learn something new everyday I guess!

I am deathly afraid of most bugs especially centipedes....I remember growing up I was home alone for a few hours and a centipede was in the bathtub and I was so scared to kill it because I am terrified of them and was too scared to let it out of my sight for fear it would escape into the rest of the house and so I literally cried and just watched it for and hour until my mom got home to kill it for me.(I was probably 12 at the time)

I know it sounds pathetic but it is a REAL phobia for me!!!

Different people are scared of different things and my friend used to have a mouse problem and his cat would kill mice all the time and there were 2 times I was there when his cat found a mouse and would play with it at first(and the mouse would "play dead") and then I'd scoop up the mouse and run outside a few blocks away and let it go.(I'm sure his confused cat still hates me to this day...lol) Other people there were amazed that I was willing to scoop up a wild mouse with my hands and run it down the block.

Anyway I just don't want to sound like some weirdo who is afraid of everything...I am deathly afraid of bugs though and perhaps that is why I'm so scared that a spider got into Snicker's tank.

If it was white and that size it sounds like a freshly molted house spider. They are usually a translucent color.

They are in homes everywhere and often live in cobwebs, basements, craw spaces, under cabinets, in closets, etc..
    Completely harmless.
